Overwatch gets spooky for Halloween

A new brawl, skins, and other loot await those who dare play.

Halloween season is here, and the Overwatch team at Blizzard have delivered a celebration that brings more than just cosmetic additions to the game. Running until November 1, the Halloween in-game event provides players with the chance to get their hands on event exclusive skins, victory posts, and more. There are over 100 new items to collect before time runs out.

On top of the flood of new cosmetic items was the accompanying new brawl. While the event is running you can take part in the first co-op PvE brawl, Junkenstein’s Revenge. In this brawl, players select a hero before the start. (Either Ana, Hanzo, McCree, or Soldier:76) The event starts with a playful introduction featuring Junkenstein himself. You then defend the doors of castle Adlersbrunn from waves of zombie omnics, otherwise known as zomnics.

They will attempt to attack the doors, some directly, and others will attack at range. Mixed into the waves are AI controlled heroes in the forms of Reaper, Roadhog, Mercy, and Junkrat. These ‘bosses’ will try to disrupt your attempts to defend the castle doors.

This event comes in easy, medium, and hard difficulties, and can be quite a challenge as you can quickly become overwhelmed if a teammate falls or a boss appears at a bad time. If you plan to go for the highest score and the maximum fun, you should consider bringing a team of friends. You can also see how your friends are doing via a leaderboard.

A PvE brawl was an unexpected addition to the event, and some are speculating on what this means for future content, and whether there will be more PvE events that could be used for in-game storytelling or more. You can hear more about the event on the latest episode of Overcast. You can also learn more about the event from the game’s page, here.
