If you thought that last month was good, the year is just getting warmed up…
We’re coming off an exciting February that gave gamers all over much to be happy about. Heading into March the industry is blowing the doors off just in time for spring break to get here so college students (like me) can blow off those papers that are coming due and spend some time on some of the hottest titles of the year. Here is what is in store for this month.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (And the Nintendo Switch)
This is a two for one deal because players get the game and a new console. Breath of the Wild is one of many launch titles for the Switch. Players will guide Link through an expansive open world environment that rivals other modern open world games. Gameplay features the use of the Sheikah Slate which acts as your map and more. Eiji Aonuma stated that players can play the game their own way, even ignoring the story of the game and still reach the ending. Breath of the Wild also features Amiibo support, so grab your Wolf Link and get ready for a new adventure when the game and console go on sale March 3.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands
Set in the modern era, Ghost Recon Wildlands puts the player in Bolivia in a mission to fight against the Santa Blanca, a drug cartel. Players will have a vast array of tools at their disposal to complete missions such as drones, weapons, and vehicles of all types. Players will perform reconnaissance missions to gather information about targets take down targets and work with local citizens all while dealing with dynamic weather conditions. The game also has a day/night cycle allowing you to plan when to execute your missions which can be completed by going in guns blazing or by stealth. You can play with up to four players via co-op so grab your friends and make the world a safer place when the game releases on March 7.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Take on the role of either Sara or Scott Ryder in the newest installment of the series. You will explore the reaches of the Andromeda galaxy as the races of the Citadel Council look to populate other worlds. Players no longer choose a class when starting out in the game, but now assign skills as they progress through the game allowing your to customize the skills and bonuses you unlock. Combat in the game happens in real time with no pausing to use menus and follows the same third person over the shoulder form as before. Thanks to the use of the Frostbite 3 engine the game features outstanding visuals across the various worlds that will keep you entranced There is a new galaxy to explore, so suit up and be ready to drop on March 21.
MLB The Show 17
Continuing to lead the way in baseball gaming, MLB The Show releases another addition to the series with improvements and new features to keep fans excited. This year’s title promises to let you write your own hall of fame story by allowing you to interact with coaches and others off the field to control the path of your career. Quick manage mode has been added to allow you to mange the game, but finish in s shorter amount of time for those nights you don’t have much time. You can even head into retro mode and play the game like it was 1994 with pixilated menu graphics and a retro soundtrack. Tie up your cleats and get ready to step up to the plate on March 28.
Set after the events of the original Nier, this game again puts the player in a post-apocalyptic setting. The game features action filled combat and player progression handled through levels and experience. You play as one of the YoRHa andorids controlled from afar. You can customize your character through the use of ‘Chips’ which modify the attributes of the player character. Just like the prior game, the camera is dynamic depending on where you are. (For example, some areas are side scrolling) The game is fast and exciting with up tempo combat and pretty visuals. Join the battle when the game releases on March 7.
